I have been a social worker and counselor for 25 years. I lost my husband, Graham, of 48 marital years in 2019, and my best friend, Elaine, of 35 plus years in 2020. Given my background, I thought I would weather the storm of grief reasonably well. But my experience with grief was horrendous. I decided to write a blog to help people with little experience in healing their grief because I feel a kinship with them. We have a bond in pain and the gap it left in our lives.

I had all sorts of tools in my bag of ways to heal mental suffering. Although at first, I was paralyzed to do anything except suffer. Many days were spent barely able to get out of my overstuffed chair to accomplish necessary tasks. However, as I emerged from my grieving stupor, I sought out multiple ways to heal my grief. I began using healing techniques six months after his demise.

I have worked assisting clients in identifying their needs, potential goals, and solutions. We have also worked on communication skills and coping skills to improve their mental torment. I hope that I can help those who are just beginning their journey through grief and those who have struggled to get past the intense misery. It has been five years in April, and I must admit, I feel so much better. I still miss my husband, Graham, and best friend, Elaine, but I am not in agony as I had been in previous years.
